Sharing Web Resources

The specific sections of the World Forum Foundation (2017) that are relevant to my current professional development are the Special Needs and Men in Early Childhood Education ones.  The “Special Needs” section is relevant to my current professional development because I work with many children who have special needs, and I am always looking to improve my craft in regards to how to better accommodate and instruct them.  Furthermore, the “Men in Early Childhood Education” section is relevant to my current professional development because there are not enough men in the profession.  However, when it comes to the section of “Men in Early Childhood Education,” I have a new perspective on this issue.  For instance, throughout my tenure in early childhood education, I have not seen many men in the classroom, for there are typically women who are teaching the children.  The perspective I had to recognize is that this is not the norm throughout the world.  Accordin...

Getting to Know Your International Contacts—Part 1

After examining the United Nations International Emergency Children’s Fund (UNICEF) website (n. d.), the country that I decided to study in regards to childhood poverty in Jamaica. Learning about childhood poverty in Jamaica provided me with three insights.  For example, one thing that I learned about child poverty in Jamaica is that “income inequality persists, poverty levels remain unacceptably high and there is a high probability that many who are only living just above the poverty line could fall back into poverty” ( cited in UNICEF, 2009, p. 13).  If families cannot make enough money to support their children, then the probability of trying to eliminate poverty from their lives can be a daunting task.  No money means no economic stability; no economic stability means no chance to become self-sufficient. Not only does this problem exist in Jamaica, the country also has to deal with a substantial level of disease.         ...

The link to the international website I have chosen comes from the World Forum Foundation, and it is https://worldforumfoundation.org/ .  This organization focuses on providing early childcare professionals with opportunities to assist young children throughout the world.  As well as early childhood educators, early childhood advocates also assist in helping young children by providing the children with and creating safe environments that promote children’s learning.   On the website, one of the issues that the World Forum Foundation (2017) highlights is children’s rights.  For instance, in the children’s rights section, it talks about what resources are available for advocates and how they can utilize them to defend young children.  Advocating for young children is an important issue in the early childcare profession because all children need to have a voice, especially if there are situations in which children are neglected and/or abused and when there a...

Getting Ready—Expanding Horizons and Expanding Resources

I decided to choose the alternative assignment for Part 1.  What I look for when I am selecting an early childhood organization is twofold.  First, I research the organization by navigating through its website to seek information on the services it provides.  Then, because I truly care about special needs children and children who are living in poverty and/or who come from low-income families, I research the resources that are available to those children and their parents.  The website that I decided to study is from the World Forum Foundation.  The World Forum Foundation (2017) has resources for children with special needs and for children’s play. The website is: https://connect.worldforumfoundation.org/
