"My Supports"
The factors that support me within my daily environment are my family and my bed, for they both provide me with comfortability.  For example, my family supports me because I rely on them for emotional support.  Whenever I am dealing with life situations such as having a rough day at work, my mother and my sister are always there to be a listening ear for me and to give me advice.  Similarly, my bed is another support factor for me because it provides comfort for me because, after a long day at work, I need rest.  When I am well-rested, then I am refreshed for the next day.  It would be very difficult for me to function without support from my family. I would be an emotional wreck if I did not have my family in my corner, for my mother and my sister are my foundation.  I talk to them daily.  It would also be very difficult if I did not have a comfortable bed because I need rest, and if I do not receive enough sleep throughout the night, I would be sluggish and unmotivated to teach my students.  I would not want to sleepy and tired in front of my students because I would not want them to feel as if they are tired and unmotivated to learn; children feed off the energy the teacher projects to them in the classroom.
Furthermore, one support that I would need is a better vehicle.  I have a car right now, but it is old, and it is costing too much money to consistently repair it.  My current vehicle enables me to travel to and from work and to run errands, but I do know how much longer it will hold up in the cold weather, especially during a Chicago winter.  It would be very difficult for me to travel without a car because despite that the buses and trains run consistently in Chicago, by the time I get off work, I will be waiting a long time for the bus.  That is not fun waiting for the bus by yourself when it is dark outside at 5pm.  In other words, not having a vehicle would immobilize my independence and existence to some extent.  If I did not have a car, my life would be heavily impacted.  According to the University of Minnesota (2016), the environment can impact people’s lives because it can: (1) “facilitate or discourage interactions among people (and the subsequent benefits of social support); (2) influence peoples' behavior and motivation to act; (3) influence mood” (p. 1).  The environment can be supportive as it affects a people’s lifestyles.

Hi Teresa, I believe we all need to mention our beds as support. After a long day at work, I come home and plop on my bed. My husband constantly tell me that our bed has a hole due to me coming home everyday sitting on it. It is amazing how it provide the support to help you unwind. I can't imagine not having my bed to sit and sleep on. The things we take for granted. My family is a source of support for me as well. I wouldn't be where I am without their support. Great post!

Teresa,
ReplyDeleteI can relate to you when you say that your family is one of your biggest support. My husband is my rock and although much of what I confide in him, he cannot change, it is very comforting talking to family that you know care about you and your well-being. Because your family know you so well, they are able to offer suggestions that they know will benefit you. Thank you so much for sharing!
Best,

Hi Theresa,
ReplyDeleteI would not have thought of my bed as a support, but you are so right! It is now, and has always been one of my favorite places. It is terribly comforting to climb into bed after a long day of working and taking care of children, and proper rest is absolutely essential to being able to carry on throughout a day of educating our young ones. Thanks for sharing!
Hello Teresa,
ReplyDeleteStating that your bed is your support system, is actually a true statement I never thought about. I use my bed to relax and clear my mind when something is bothering me. My bed is where me and my son take naps and enjoy our quality time together. My bed is were I receive my spiritual growth and talk to God. My bed is actually my support system.
