Sharing Web Resources December 10, 2017

The Children’s Defense Fund leads people to learn about how funds are necessary to defend children.  After searching through the website, I found that the organization has plenty of resources on a variety of aspects regarding the early childhood education field.  For example, in the “Policy Priorities” section on the Children’s Defense Fund, the policies focus on the areas of ending children’s poverty, children’s health, early childhood development and learning, elementary and secondary education, child welfare, and juvenile justice (Children’s Defense Fund, 2017).  Also, in the CDF monthly newsletter, it does cover improving the quality of education in the early childhood profession.  For instance, the CDF has Freedom Schools which immerses children into reading programs as a way to improve children’s reading prowess as well as close achievement gaps so that they do not lose any knowledge during summer vacation.  This program assists all children, despite their socioeconomic level and/or ability.  While the Children’s Defense Fund touch on many issues in the early childhood education field, the World Forum Foundation touches on improving the field.
Furthermore, the World Forum Foundation website adds to my understanding of equity and excellence in early childcare and education by providing a curriculum that comprises of universal guidelines to ensure that all children receive the best quality education available (World Forum Foundation, 2017).  A new insight that I gained this week from exploring the Children’s Defense Fund’s website is that making sure that every child read at his or her grade level is just as important as receiving a high-quality education. When a child reads at his or her grade level or higher, then it could be a reflection of the quality of education that he or she is obtaining, and that could come from early childhood educators and parents who are invested in children’s academics.  Despite whether the children are living in poverty, parents and early childhood professions should become as involved in their children’s success as much as possible.  Children who read more may enhance their understanding of the world around them.

  1. Hello Teresa,

I like that you chose two international websites to explore this week, I think it is important to understand issues and trends in the early education field not only in the united states but, in different areas of the world. Have you received any newsletters from these organizations? I signed up for both of them and I have not received a newsletter from either company.

  2. Hello Teresa,

For every educator, learning about Children's Defense Fund is important to us all. We have to learn ways to defend children when they can not defend themselves and we have to be the voice they need. Acknowledging the policy priorities are ways we can help children overcome the barriers and become great citizens.

  4. Hello Teresa,

it is interesting that CDF concern to program to give the children access to read. I would explore more, since in my homeland, EC professional still need to work hard to motivate the scholars to have interest in reading. It should start in early years actually. It is kind of a reminder for me as EC professional in a developing country.

    Thank you.
