Time Well Spent Week 8

One of the things that I enjoyed learning about in this program is the importance of having a Community of Practice (CoP) in the early childhood field.  Before this program, I did not know the reason why it was necessary to have it and the impact that it could have on the profession.  I learned about the people and the resources I would need to depend on to make sure that I can be successful at getting rid of homelessness.  While learning this concept in this program provided me with insight on how to develop a community of resources, I also learned about leadership in the early childhood field.
Furthermore, another concept that I liked learning about was leadership in the early childhood field.  I learned about developing people and about leadership teams in regards to solving a potential conflict in the field.  I learned a lot about my leadership style, and I learned about the way that I communicate with others.  Effective communication would be essential for me, especially when it comes to dealing with challenges in early childhood such as lack of health care, education, and the inaccessibility of resources for all children because of their families’ socioeconomic status.  There could be a conflict if no leadership is taken to provide equal access to all who are in need, so that one of the reasons why leaders are needed in the field; they need to make sure that conflict does not take away from the importance of the issues.
Finally, the third that I was interested in learning about was grant writing.  Before taking the grant writing class in this program, I did not know how to get started.  I always had resources booked, but I did not know all of the nuances that comes with starting a high-quality program in the early childhood field.  I needed to know this because when I do open up my daycare center, I  would have knowledge on how to write proposals to allocate items such as supplies and equipment to sustain the center and to offer programs that will attract children, parents, and community members.
My long-term goal is to teach future teachers the skills and the knowledge they need to start their own early childhood business.  This way, I will be able to make a difference in children's lives now and in the future by training future teachers.
I want to thank my professors and my colleagues for the hard work and dedication they displayed throughout this program. I really learned a lot from you all.  If it was not for my family and the motivation to push me to complete my degree, I would have given up.  Therefore, I thank everyone who has helped me become successful in the early childhood field.

  1. Teresa, learning about a community of practice was very beneficial to me. It allowed me to focus on those who have the same views and goal that I have. It also helped me to understand that there are those who are willing to help and provide beneficial information to that I may become successful in my professional and personal life. My long term goal is similar to yours, being able to educate children is one of the most important things to me. Thank you for being a great colleague and I wish you the best in your future endeavors.
