Team Development Week 6


High-performing groups can be tough to leave.  It could be that no one wants to leave from a position which all team members get along with each other, and that camaraderie produced productive and positive performances.  This in turn, can spoil a person when he or she goes to a new job, and that same individual who expected a similar situation to occur is disappointed because team success do not equal and/or surpass what he or she is accustomed to experiencing.  For this reason, it could be suggested that groups with the clearest norms can be cumbersome to detach from because of the relationships that were established throughout the duration of one’s tenure at the job.  Furthermore, one of the most heartwarming closing rituals that I have experienced occurred when I left my job as a home visitor.  Because many of the parents knew when my last visits were to their homes, they thanked me by cooking for me and buying gifts to wish me well.  It made me cry because I did not know how much they appreciated my efforts to assist them and their children.  I really appreciated it, and I will never forget how humble I felt to be of service to those families.  My colleagues and my boss also congratulated me on my new position, but it was not to the extent of the parents I visited on a weekly basis.  While I felt loved by the parents I visited, it was still tough for me to leave them, but I had to do it.
Moreover, when this class is over, my classmates and I will probably go our separate ways as we continue throughout our program at Walden University.  I may have some of the same classmates, and I may have new ones as well; it is always good when we are sharing information and learning together.  Adjourning is an important part of teamwork because sometimes there has to be a change of pace, and could be easy to become disinterested in completing the task at hand.  According to O’ Hair, Wiemann, Mullin, and Teven (2015), “When leaders are able to adapt their styles to the needs of the groups they guide, they can enhance the productivity and satisfaction of group members in their day-to-day activities” (p.279).  This means that my classmates and I will part ways because we are all working to become leaders in the early childhood field, and that sharing the same class was good while it lasted, for the finishing means that we have accomplished our goals of becoming successful early childhood practitioners.

    I enjoyed you sharing your post. That was a very nice thing of those parents. It does make you feel warm inside. I like how you said that we will be going in separate direction. We may see each other on line next course or not, but it has been fun knowing my classmates. You all have played an important role in helping me reach my goal.

  2. Wow, I am curious what exactly is a home visitor and what where your duties? I agree with you on the norm being the hardest group to leave! I basically feel like we struggled together, we have created this die hard bond don't so this group will honestly make me sad to separate from. I believe in this stage we uplift each other by encouraging one another and learning new things. So hands down these groups will be the hardest to leave.. Great Post!

    Thank you for sharing your Blog this week on team development. I valued your reason for adjourning and continuing on our paths as colleagues here at Walden University.   4. I agree that adjourning is necessary as there needs to be a change of pace so that you are kept interested and involved at all times. Where you ever part of a group that did not adjourn when you thought it would and it dragged on without accomplishing anything?
